Back up your data from a virus infected pen drive

Trouble:

We have been receiving lots of problems these days, most of the problems relate to different types of virus which commonly infect through pen drives. There are large number of viruses like NewFolder.exe virus, Funny UST Scandal avi.Exe , kinza.exe and W32.Rontokbro.B@mm virus.

Most of these viruses cause the following most common problems on your windows computer.
Folder Options Hidden
Task Manager Disabled
Registry Editing Disabled
Command Prompt Disabled
All the types of viruses which infect from your system, through a file called autorun.inf created on the root directory of your pen drive. So, when you double click your virus infected pen drive the virus automatically copy itself to your system.

Let’s see how can you still open your infected pen drives on your computer copy your data.

Fix:
1. Firstly insert your pen drive into the USB port, windows will run autorun menu but don’t open your pen drive through autorun menu rather cancel it.
2. As your pen drive will get detected and will show under My Computer with a drive letter associated.
3. Press Window + D and type : and press Enter.

4. Back up your files from your pen drive, but remember to copy files only not folders
5. Now, Click on Tools >> Folder Options and Click the View tab.
Scroll down and select to show hidden files and folders and click Ok
6. Move back the focus to your pen drive, you will many virus files and folder and delete any files or folder which looks suspicious to you from your pen drive.

Command Prompt disabled by virus

Trouble:
We receive around 60 percent of the problems related to the troubles caused due to virus infection. These days virus spread so easily through the pen drives and other portable drives, it has become very difficult for a normal person to protect his/her computer system.

Most common problems which are generally caused by the virus which spread through USB pen drives are:
Task Manager disabled problem in windows xp
Folder options disabled by Virus / Trojan
Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator
Another most common problem faced due to virus infection is when certain types of virus like rontokbro or brontok, disable command prompt, we have also covered the removal of brontok virus.

There are also cases when the user reported that their computer restart when they try to launch command prompt, or command prompt blinks for a second and nothing happens.

Let’s see how can you enable your command prompt again when it is disabled by a virus.
Fix:
There has been two most successful methods with which you can enable your disabled command prompt.

Method 1:
The simplest method to get your command prompt back is to add a registry key , but you should be having registry editing is enabled.

1. Open Start >> Run and type the following command ( or just copy it )
REG add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System /v DisableCMD /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

2. Copy the above command and press Enter.
This will solve your trouble and your command prompt will be enabled.

Note: Method 1 may not work when your system is severely infected by a virus and even the registry editing is disabled due to which you are not able to run the above command from run prompt.

Method 2:
It involves a tool called RRT - Remove Restrictions Tool by sergiwa which can enable the disabled command prompt by virus.
It also helps in removing other restrictions which are also caused due to virus infection listed below.
Disable Folder Options
Disable Registry Tools
Disable Ctrl+Alt+Del
Disable Show hidden files & folders come with hidden attribute set to true!
Disable Run Command
Other than it also includes fixes for the removing 38 restrictions that are caused by different types of viruses.

Note: Make sure you boot in to Safe Mode to use Remove Restrictions Tool (RRT). Just click on the buttons and it’ll do it’s job.
The limited version is RRT tool is for FREE for personal use only. If you would like to use the application in a business environment you are required to license the application.

Password Protect your files with Norton Secret Stuff

Important Viruses types and recovery technique

There are many types of viruses, but the most important types of viruses are described below.

Boot sector virus

We know that the disk is divided into tracks and sectors the disk on which the operating system has been loaded, has a special program in its first sector called the boot sector. When the computer is turned on, the program in the boot sector is automatically loaded into the memory. This program then loads the operating system into the memory after performing some initial tasks. The boot sector virus modifies the program in the boot sector. It is loaded into memory whenever computer is turned on. This virus is attached with the executable files, i.e. .exe, .com, and .dll files. When these executable files are used by the user, the virus attached with these files is also activated. It infects other files and also performs destructive activities. It also destroys the data files.

Chernobal Virus
The famous chernobal virus deletes all the Microsoft Office files and also the partition information from the disk. Once the partition of the disk is deleted, the important data on the disk cannot be accessed.
Logic Bomb
Logic bomb is a virus, which is activated on the basis of a logical condition. Examples of conditions that can be used as triggers for a logic bomb are the presence or absence of certain files, a particular day of the date etc. Once this virus is triggered, the important data stored into a computer may be deleted or corrupted.
Usually, this type of virus is created and installed by a programmer who is working in a organization on temporary basis. He installs the logic bomb in an accounting program to check for his name in the organization payroll system. If the employee is terminated, the logic bomb is triggered and the program may delete files of payroll system or may perform some destructive actions.
Trojan Horse

Usually, the Trojan Horse virus is the part of some computer game programs. When game program is installed in the computer and run, this virus is activated. An example of Trojan Horse is Format C.
Redlof
Redlof virus is a polymorphic virus. It is written in visual basic script. Polymorphic means “changes nature with passage of time”. This virus changes its nature with passage of time and therefore, it is difficult to catch this virus by an anti virus program. Normally, this virus infects the file “Folder.htt”. This file is the part of windows operating system.
Some viruses may make invisible changes, hence corrupting the data being used and some virus may also make data unusable.
A virus program may detect some special information like passwords or any sensitive data and send it to some other user on a network. For example a virus program may read the “Pin code” of credit card, entered by a user and then send this information to another user.
A virus may make resources unavailable to the users. For example a virus after copying itself on all computers on a network, may affect the communication activity on the network, so that other users cannot use the network.
