Airtel Broadband Hack : Increase Your Internet Speed

I usually get 2-4 mails a week asking about how to increase Internet Speed. As I am using Airtel Broadband connection so today I am going to tell you that how you can increase your Internet speed from 64 Kbps to 256 Kbps without any software. I do not know whether this trick is legal or not but I guarantee you that Airtel will never know about this.
So lets start :

Requirements :

1) An Airtel broadband connection.

2) Any Airtel phone number with high broadband speed :

Yes, you need a phone number of Airtel with high broadband speed like 256 kbps.

Airtel connection is so common that any of your friend or neighbour might be using it.

Just ask for their phone number and save it. As an example, I am assuming a number 1234567

Step1) Now comes the tricky part : Just call 197 from your Airtel landline phone and ask for the following details of the number 1234567.

>> Name of the owner of this number.

>> Address of the owner of this number.

Step 2) That's it. Now note down the 2 details mentioned above.

Step 3) Now call customer care ( 4444121) from Airtel landline and tell them that I need the Account Number and give them the phone number you have e.x 1234567He/she will ask you for the account details and tell them exactly what you noted in

Step 4).Note : Airtel by default sets the username as Phone Number and password as Account Number.

Now you have phone number and account number of a person that has a high broadband Airtel connection.Now I am going to tell you that what to do with the phone number and account number.

Step 5) Open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and in the address bar enter the following address and hit enter.
192.168.1.1 When you will press enter a Window will pop up asking for User Name and Password.

Step 5) In the user name and password field enter the details below :
User Name : admin

Password : password

DSL Router will open and we have to make some changes in the Modem settings.

Step 6) In the left sidebar click on WAN and a new page will open and click on EDIT.

Have a look :

Click on Edit and keep on clicking Next until you get this screen :

Now in the PPP Username and PPP Password enter the following.

PPP Username : 01721234567@_dsl@airtelbroadband.in( Here is 0172 is my State Code and 1234567 is the phone number is assumed but in your case both will be different. )

PPP Password : enter the account number that your noted in Step 2After entering these keep on clicking Next and at last click on Save and then Save and Reboot.

Now reboot your system and check your Internet speed here.

Congrats now you have high Internet Speed connection.

Vodafone to launch iPhone on 22 August, starting from Rs. 31000 in India

Just checked official mail from Vodafone confirming launch date and price of Apple iPhone in India. Vodafone is launching iPhone in India from August 22, 2008 with 8GB & 16GB models, priced at Rs. 31,000 and Rs. 36,100 respectively.
Vodafones rival,
Airtel is also launching iPhone on 22 August probably at the same price.
This is much higher than what I have expected. Also as these prices are clearly targeting very rich consumer section, these iPhones may come altogether with different plan with higher call rates / GPRS charges.
But I am still hopeful that prices will drop significantly once telecom companies make enough profits from first wave of iPhone customers. So I will surely wait for atleast 2 months before buying iPhone.

Sushil Kumar won the bronze medal after beating Kazakhstan's wrestler in a play-off in the men's 66 kg freestyle wrestling through repechage round at the Beijing Olympics.

Earlier, India's ace freestyle grappler Sushil Kumar lost ion the first round to Ukraine's Andriy Stadnik in the men's 66 kg freestyle event. Stadnik started of well as he earned the first point while Sushil levelled it soon but the tough Ukrainian took the lead again as he led the first round 2-1.

Stadnik strengthened his lead by scoring quick six points in the second round while Sushil didn't even score a lone point against his mighty Ukrainian opponent.

Eventually Sushil made it to the Olympics after making it to the quarter-finals of the World wrestling championship, where he lost to Stadnik from a convincing margin of 4-15.

How to Direct Connect Two Computers

Connect the USB cable to the proper port on each computer.
Click on "Start" in the lower left-hand corner of the desktop screen. Then choose "Control Panel," "Network and Internet Connections" and "Network Connections."

When logged in as "administrator" or a user that is a member of the "administrators" group, full access to all of the devices that are installed and enabled on the computer will show up in a list when creating a new connection. If one is not logged in as an administrator or member of the administrators group, COM ports for direct connections will not be available. COM ports must be configured with a null modem for use with a direct connection, and this must be done by a user with administrative privileges.

Orkut Albums Got Faster with AJAX

Noticed today change in Orkuts album navigation. Previous and Next image links (highlighted in screenshot below) now loads consecutive images using AJAX. In simple words when you click on these links now, they loads previous/next image in album without refreshing entire page. All this mean, you can browse orkut albums faster now.

This feature is still seems under experiment. I came across some weird messages and also loading indicator image which you can note in above screenshot is appearing in top-left corner for first image load.
Orkut can still improve many things with album navigation. May be they can do it the way I did it one year ago with my AJAX Style Orkut album script. I stopped updating that script, but still this screenshot can give you feeling of how it changed Orkut Album Navigation.

Hackers always keep an eye on RS accounts, so if your account is scammed here is a working way to get it back.Note : This post is written by ShadowSwifter and I am just attempting to rewrite it in my own words.So lets start :As you get a Rapidshare Account note down all the following details of your account and save it in your computer.

E-Mail*: ...
Login-ID*: ...
Transaction-ID*: ...
Date of account-creation: ...
Date of payment**: ... I
f your account get scammed write an email to support@rapidshare.com telling about all the information of your account. Here is what ShadowSwifter provided for Rapidshare Technical Support to get his accounts back:

1. Account name: Login ID and the aliases you've used.
2. Date of creation.
3. Date of thievery.
4. A copy of the LOGS (where the IPs are recorded) and tell RS which ones are friendly and get them to blacklist the hostile ones (which are most likely ones belonged to the scammer)
5. Email used to create the account.
6. All emails that have been applied to the account.
7. Make a backup of all the links of the files uploaded to the account (use that extract link option)He further says that "Rapidshare asked us to give them a few links of uploaded content, I think they use them to track the account so its vital for you to have a clear record of what have been uploaded to your account and what their links are."
8. Tell them the Number of files uploaded and the Total Size of the files uploaded. Simply copy paste the account status on your main menu.
9. Tell them how many points you have got.
10. Take screenshots of Your Main Menu, Your LOGS, Your OPTIONS.Tips:
Make sure your email is sincere. formal and honest. Don't be aggressive, they reply really fast and they are nice people.

New Orkut Mobile Site for Symbian Smartphones

Few months back in April, Orkut launched mobile version of their social network at http://m.orkut.com/.
Now they have upgraded their mobile site with some nice features like photo uploading, click-to-call, better friend search, etc.
Good thing is, to use this new site you no need to download nay special mobile software or remember new address. Just go to old mobile site at http://m.orkut.com/ from your Symbian Series 60 (3rd Edition) handsets browser and you will be served with this new feature rich version.
You can check here, which handsets are Symbian Series 60 (3rd Edition).
Hopefully orkut will expand this to other handsets. I think they could do better by creating a java client as it exists for Gmail. That way they could have cover wider user-base.

Comparing Medals Tally at the Olympics

Winning Olympic medals has been all the rage in recent times as more and more nations have managed to win medals. Of course, thanks to global realignment and de-colonization, it helps to have more nations with almost 205 participating in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The top nations in the medal count has remained largely constant with United States, Russia (and former USSR), Germany (former East & West), Australia, Italy, and China (since 1984). After blanking out in Barcelona 1992, India has managed to win at least one medal in subsequent Olympics and even won an individual gold in Beijing. But how exactly do other countries fare given the variance in population size, geographic size, and resources available? Considering that the U.S. is a big-sized economy and the richest country in the world, does it give it an ‘unfair’ advantage in winning medals?
Given that more people you have, the more likely you are to win medals how would the tally look if you weight the medals tally by population:
[source] Only Australia manages to retain its spot in the top ten with Bahamas faring exceedingly well (more than 6 medals per million population). Erstwhile Soviet provinces like Estonia, Slovenia, Belarus, and Latvia wriggle into the top ten as well showing the expansion of opportunities for athletes in those countries or simply indicative of the immense talent pool that the former Soviet Union used so well to win medals by the bucket load. If India won medals at the ability of Belarus, we would have gotten nearly 150 medals at Athens :)
But let us not simply consider number of potential athletes but put it in context of the country’s wealth (GDP):
[source] Belarus, one of the top ten in the previous table manages to significantly improve its standing (Ethopia is the highest with a podium index of 87.5). The ex-Soviet states and other countries from Eastern Europe figure in the top again indicating the immense talent pool and ability to win medals in spite of relative less wealth in their countries. However, if those athletes train in developed countries like the U.S., then this method of comparison might not be entirely accurate because the athletes simply represent the countries and do not live or train there (e.g. Christy Coventry from Zimbabwe).
The podium index for the U.S. is 0.9 and that of China is 3.7. Where does India stand you ask? Well, the podium index for India was 0.0001.
Slice it whichever way, India doesn’t fare well at all. After all, winning just one medal per Olympics is not going to help especially for a country with 1.1 billion people and a GDP of nearly 5 trillion. And these analysis additionally assume that a gold medal is on par with a bronze which we know is not the case. The commentator during the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games remarked at India’s contingent size and medal tally for previous three Olympics compared to China since we have comparable population. And it didn’t make for easy listening.
How do we win more? Well, that’s something that is rehashed at the start of every Olympics and forgotten at the end of each event although reading Rediff comment boards can give you an insight into why we do not. Tyler Cowen at Marginal Revolutions blames “lack of government subsidies, low social mobility, nutrition problems, the relative lack of TV to inspire the young ‘uns…and bad roads.”
Interestingly, he also mentions the high frequency of success for “non-democratic, authoritarian governments that feel a greater need to prove themselves on the international stage and to their people at home.” Rings true of China and Cuba and was very much true of the Soviet Union and East Germany. I say, we rather have a democracy than more Olympic medals if that is indeed a choice.

A gold medal at last! And in an individual event no less. Congrats, Abhinav Bindra for winning the top honors in the 10m air rifle shooting. India’s last gold was in the (largely-boycotted) Moscow 1980 Olympics in hockey. Bindra’s success should prove that in spite of the lack of supporting infrastructure, Indian sportspersons can compete with the best so just imagine if they got the support and attention. I just hope that bureaucrats and sports administration officials like Kalamadi do not take credit or hog the limelight when Bindra returns (remember the T20 World Cup winning team feliciation?) Listed below are plugins, which will improve your blogs navigation and thus will result in higher page-views.
1. Similar Post Plugin
This plugin as name suggests, displays contextually related posts. I strongly feel one should use related post kind of plugin, replacing wordpress default next & previous post links, that many themes show on single post pages.
Most of our visitors come from search engines and related posts list can get them engaged for more time on your site compared to probably unrelated next & previous posts. Also this way your old posts may get some exposure to visitors as well as search engines.
There are plenty of plugins which offers this kind of functionality. They differ is their logic to calculate related posts, customization options, etc. I use Similar Post Plugin by Rob Marsh, which also takes care of similar posts in feed items.

2. Sensitive Tag Cloud Plugin
If you have like hundreds of tags and you blog on many different topics, then wordpress’s default tag cloud may not be a good option to you. But tag clouds is web 2.0 way of navigating a site.
This plugin makes your tag cloud more relevant to the context of the page being displayed. Actually relevance turned out to be much lesser than I expected, but better than wordpress default tag cloud widget. I just wish this plugin get more sensitive!

3. Breadcrumb Navigation Plugin
If breadcrumb is not familiar word, then recall some site/forum which always display on every page something like “You are here: Home >> Wordpress >> Plugins”.
This is very old but still cool way to make your blog easily navigable as it gives users a way to keep track of their location within your blog. As of now I do not use this plugin, but the reason is, this blog is highly unorganized. I would love to use this plugin in future for sure.

Today I will post about plugins which will help your blog spread via social networking/bookmarking services. I personally think socializing aspect is more important than direct SEO, which I will discuss in tomorrows post.
Social plugins allow your blog visitor to spread a word about your blog posts. As this is what they say mouth-to-mouth publicity, its impact will be greater. Also links spreads naturally ranks good compared to evil SEO tactics.
So here is list of social plugins…

1. Sociable Plugin
This plugin automatically add links on your posts to popular social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious, Technorati, Facebook, etc. You can choose any number of social sites from almost 100 networking sites.
You can also choose on which types of pages social sites icons to be shown. I selected full-posts & static pages. There is an option to put this buttons in RSS feed too. There are few advance options like “open in new window”.
You can see live example of this plugin on this blogs’ posts. There is a “share and enjoy” section after post content which is courtesy this plugin.

2. ShareThis Plugin
This plugin provides a simple way for users to add your post to many social bookmarking sites, or to send your post link via email, AIM, Facebook, MySpace and more.
It can be good alternative for above plugin with added option to track sharing stats.
I really have no good reason for not using this plugin. So check both and use one which you like more.

3. WP Conditional Digg This Badge plugin
There are many Digg plugins thanks to popularity of Digg. But one I like is WP Conditional Digg This Badge plugin. This plugin check if a post have enough Digg (default 10 Diggs) before showing Digg This button. I think this approach is nice as your is most likely to Digg a post with higher Diggs beforehand. Also this avoid showing Digg This button on each post which some visitors find annoying.
If you do not want to clutter your post pages at all then stick to one of above two plugins. They both support sharing via Digg.

4. Twitter Tools
This plugin allows you to automatically post a tweet to your twitter account whenever a new post is published. if you like twitter then you can use other options like sidebar widget included in plugin to show recent twitter updates in sidebar.
If you just want to use auto tweets for new post part, better use twitterfeed service.
Many top bloggers use dedicated twitter accounts for their blog posts. Even I will soon start this for Devils Workshop, as suggested by Rajat Arora

You can use this plugin to add your newly published post to del.icio.us automatically. There are few more options which I really don’t find useful. I use tweetmarks service to achieve similar goals.
But using this plugin have one advantage. You can use post categories, tags, title as tags for del.icio.us links.

All you need is a firmware patch supplied by the authors. It’s a command-line installation, but not a terribly complicated one. If you want to use a different background image than the one supplied, you’ll need the free iPodWizard utility for Windows, which, incidentally, allows you to change your iPod’s fonts, graphics and text.
Alas, this is a nano-only hack for the moment, but the authors promise a 5G iPod version soon. Until it arrives, I can’t test this myself, though plenty of users have reported success in the iPodWizard.net forums. Share your own experiences in the comments!

Back up your data from a virus infected pen drive

Trouble:

We have been receiving lots of problems these days, most of the problems relate to different types of virus which commonly infect through pen drives. There are large number of viruses like NewFolder.exe virus, Funny UST Scandal avi.Exe , kinza.exe and W32.Rontokbro.B@mm virus.

Most of these viruses cause the following most common problems on your windows computer.
Folder Options Hidden
Task Manager Disabled
Registry Editing Disabled
Command Prompt Disabled
All the types of viruses which infect from your system, through a file called autorun.inf created on the root directory of your pen drive. So, when you double click your virus infected pen drive the virus automatically copy itself to your system.

Let’s see how can you still open your infected pen drives on your computer copy your data.

Fix:
1. Firstly insert your pen drive into the USB port, windows will run autorun menu but don’t open your pen drive through autorun menu rather cancel it.
2. As your pen drive will get detected and will show under My Computer with a drive letter associated.
3. Press Window + D and type : and press Enter.

5. Now, Click on Tools >> Folder Options and Click the View tab.
Scroll down and select to show hidden files and folders and click Ok

Apart form these there are softwares which notifies you whenever a comment is posted on your blog, But they all are so primitive and make use of some sort of hacks or polling techniques which increases load on your blog. Hacking FeedBurner Feed Count using Netvibes

Most bloggers show their FeedBurner feed count proudly. Readers tend to subscribe to blogs with higher readers and adevrtiser are dying to buy ad slots on them!
So its common sense that higher FeedBurner count is always better. But Joop & Patrick posted a FeedBurner hack at The Next Web which increases your FeedBurner feed count by any number overnight.
They basically created a OPML file which contains same FeedBurner URL more than 2500 times. A OPML file is basically list of feed links. It is used to import/export feed subscription list between different feed readers.
Next they imported this special OPML file to a Netvibes account. Netvibes created a widget for each feed entry. All of these Netvibes widget contained same feed URL and FeedBurner recorded them individually. So next day FeedBurner feed count increased by almost 2500!
So with 2 minutes of work you can have any feed count you want! Below is video demonstration of entire hack..

Recently we have posted a small trick about How to add any item to windows startup via Send To menu. Today we have come up with an idea on How to add any item to quick launch via Send To menu.

This post is about adding some frequent used programs to your quick launch quickly via Send To menu, we all know we can add any item to system tray just by dragging the program to the quick launch bar. Implementing this trick is quite easy.

Let’s see how can you implement this trick.

1. Right Click on the empty area of your desktop select New >> Shortcut
2. Copy the path given below, add your vista username in place of and paste it into the target path for the shortcut
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

3. Click Next and then Finish.
4. Now, you will see a new shortcut created on your desktop.
5. Cut and Paste this shortcut on the path given below, after replacing your vista username with in the path below
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

6. That’s it Done.

Now, after implementing this trick you can add any program to quick launch by selecting quick launch shortcut that you have placed in Send To menu.

This small tweak looks useful to me sometimes, I am not saying this way is better than your regular method of dragging programs to your quick launch, rather this is another way to add item to your quick launch.

Custom SMTP server - a solution for better Feedburner email service?

Last month I posted about updates from FeedBurner email service being delayed almost by one month. Then I posted how to leave FeedBurner without loosing your existing subscribers in case one want to switch to a new service.
But like many bloggers, I don’t want to leave FeedBurner. It would be great if they just improve their email delivery system. Now thinking (seriously) about solution, I reached to a new conclusion.

Technically, one thing that may be seriously affecting FeedBurner email delivery, is high load on their SMTP servers. Of course this is hard to belive as Google fuels FeedBurner.

Now there are many forums, blogging software which allow you to specify custom SMTP server settings. If specified, third party SMTP server is used, instead of webhosts default mail function.

Coming back to FeedBurner, if they give similar option to publisher, one can use SMTP servers they find fast and trustworthy. Also publishers with custom SMTP server can be allowed to send one mail per post as they are not eating up FeedBurners’ mailing resources.

Or FeedBurner can start a new paid service where publishers who are ready to pay extra will get timely email delivery as well as mail per post kind of option.

There is one more hidden good side to this approach. Such paid service will be highly appreciated by top bloggers who makes most money and most traffic as well. So if these biggies shift their load to custom SMTP servers or paid plans, overall quality of service will automatically improve for small blogger!

>> Now your SMS is saved in C:\ drive, just select and open it and go to System.

>> In the System folder look for Mail and open it.

>> In the Mail folder you will see some folders named 00001001_S, 00100000_S, 00100001_S, 00100002_S and these folders contains files like 00001000, 00100000, 001000001 etc....

>> These files are the messages that you delete from your Inbox. You have to manually check all the files.

Apple iPhone likely to launch in India next month!

Last month Airtel & Vodafone started iPhone pre-registration campaign. Being an Apple loyalist, I register with both the companies.
Today I got first email from Airtel since my registration for iPhone. Unfortunately it did not contain exact iPhone launch date or price but raises speculations that iPhone may launch in coming days.
Now some bad news…

There is lots of guessing going on about iPhone’s price tag. In US, iPhone starts with $199 and that makes many people in India think, iPhone will be available at around Rs.8000!
But as per Economic Times article, published last month, the price will be anywhere above Rs. 20000. Reason is, Apple sells iPhone to AT&T around $499 and subsidy to consumer is provided by AT&T. But as per Bharti Airtel CEO Manoj Kohli,
“US operators are able to subsidise handsets because they can make up for that with their call charges. They charge rates like 25 cents a minute. In India, the charge is 1.5 to 2 cents a minute.” (source)
I personally think consumer will benefit from Vodafone & Airtel battle over iPhone user base. Even if in India, call rates are very cheap, telecom companies will figure out some way to get some extra revenue from value added services like Internet, iPhone apps, etc. So I am hoping for competitive price around Rs.15000.

Trouble:

Sometime back we received a problem in which a reader reported the following problem

“Windows Explorer hangs when I right click on the drive in my computer”

This problem occurs could occur when when some new program gets added which could not instantiate itself. This problem could also arise due to bad context menu handler.

Following are some other problems that could be caused due to the poorly coded or bad context menu handler.

There may be a huge delay when you right click on a folder or drive,

Right click item show slowly,

When you select properties in right click nothing happens.

Let’s see how can you fix all these issues related with the right click menu

Fix:
In order to fix all these troubles associated with right click menu with a simple free utility called ShellExView by NirSoft.

What is ShellExView ?

The ShellExView utility displays the details of shell extensions installed on your computer, and allows you to easily disable and enable each shell extension on your right click menu.

ShellExView can be used for solving context-menu problems in Explorer environment
Always Launch ShellExView as administrator when running under Windows Vista.

In order to solve the problem disable the non-microsoft context menu from the list one by one and then check if it solves the problem. If disabling does not solve the problem, undo the disabled item and try disabling another non-microsoft item from the list.

Only Yahoo & Rediff works on free GPRS & others need full GPRS(Airtel & Spice is giving this service for Rs.99/Month).

Yahoo Mail:
To access Yahoo Mail on your mobile, in goto address of your wap browser type in
http://m.yahoo.com/start then select Mail.
You can read,compose,reply…with this interface.

Gmail:

To access Gmail on your mobile type in
http://gmail.com/appsand login to your gmail account. You can also download an application to get faster gmail.You will need a GPRS connection that have full wap access. For some basic handsets the above link takes lot of time to load. In that case there is another wap site that provides gmail interface,
http://gmobile.sayni.net which is not official gmail.
But loads faster than of official gmail.

Rediff Mail:
Rediff Mail & Messenger can be accessed through any GPRS enabled mobile phones. Type in your wap browser’s goto address as
http://mobile.rediff.com/index.wml and click on Mail or Messenger,
whatever you want. Unfortunately this is not a free service. Rediff will charge Rs 7 per 30 min. Rediff wap portal also provides News, Astrology, Live Cricket scorecard…etc for free!
